The Day of the Dead

The day of the dead 

November 2nd

is very popular around the world, 

we Mexicans are used to see death as a part of life, 

we consider it is a cycle, we grow up with this day 

a  c e l e b r a t i o n  d a y,

 it`s a little mixed up with Halloween now due to 

the proximity with the USA and so

the children learned to go out for their trick or treat 

as well but we call it "calaverita", we set up 

our altars with flowers and food, and dedicate

this day to remeber our loved ones that have

gone before us, I made this 

spread for that coming day, maybe I`ll attach 

some photos of that day on it!! 

I`ve carved some skulls and made beautiful cards with it as well

as the altered book page!

In here you can see my paper doll skull, you can find a tutorial in the 

right column! I`ve used my own skull design, I just Love

to make fun characters!

My brother who is also learning to carve and has been doing some 

awesome works, like this Frankenstein!

 I`ve been making tiny paintings, this is made with my tehuanas

skull doll, the rest is painted with some carved stamps!

And couldn`t resist making some cards!!

This is fun, all hand made! Can you believe it?

Carved stamps!

 I have been a stamp lover for a long time, I don`t know what it

is but I have to have every design I see in the stores and it can be 

quite an expensive obsession!  

So a few years a go I decided to make my own and it`s 

been a slow journey and I keep learning and finding things about it, 

it`s a hard job and takes a lot of precision and care but it`s worth it!

I have been practicing for a long time now and my collection keeps growing!

I will never have enough I think!  Here are a few with elements I love...

This flower has two sides, I like making a different design in both sides and I love

the frame! It really feels good when you create something original doesn`t it?

Queen of your own story!

 In my story I am the best I can be, we all keep growing, learning and

defining ourselves and it`s a non stop update!  This is the gift of life but

also it is a great challenge!  The good news is that in your universe, you 

are your own Hero, your own Queen, know it or not, you are the one

making your story so feel like the best thing that`s been on this planet!

Because you are!

You are creating your own fairy tale, one that is real, one that can be filled 

with magic and knowledge, day by day, write your beautiful story, each time, 

with higher consciousness with more purpose... 

yes it`s hard but you are here already so why not make the best of it!

My story is of Art of growing, unfolding...

I trust we are somehow guided, that my heart is leading me.

 I am loving my new journals, I have ordered them from the US  `cause they 

aren`t sold over here yet, I am in love with the pages, they are amazing!  

I have only painted a few  pages and I am already thinking about more!  Lol!

Here is an update on the little people, I have three left and a few in progress... 

Uf! What a job!  It`s hard, never thought that could be so but here it is and

as they say, no pain no gain! Lol!

A not so easy make over!

Well, I am trying something I have never done before, 

I found this at a flea market and decided to give them a 

make over!  Sounded like so much fun in my mind, much

more than what I am facing now, this is not easy at all, 

painting in a rounded surface is hard! 

It`s a vintage bowling toy, I think is wonderful!

They are all sanded, my dear brother helped me...

and I have started drawing some of the characters, so far it was easy until

the painting part came... Yay!  This is hard! I wanted to run away from the 

project but I have to finish it, I want to, now, it`s a challenge but I miss my

canvas and papers and journals...  I am learning and sometimes that hurts!

I`ve tried different things to see how this works and how they would look like,

I might change a few at the end or not... 

So far I`ve learned that sometimes we take things for granted, that we see things 

in our minds easier or harder than what they actually are, it`s until you are there,

 facing it, that you actually know how it is, this is good to have in mind when 

things look hard or difficult or even miles away from were we are, from now 

on,  I will be facing things with an open mind instead!

Just Smile!

Hello my sweets! Today I want to share an idea, making art

should be fun and easy and sometimes even kind of childlish!

So today I am letting my self just play as if I were a kid in kindergarden!

I used watercolors and a fabriano postcard paper, this will be

posted to someone next time I go to the post office, I think it

will be nice to get it! 

Just added a few color and used a pen, to make this cute faces...

I wrote around the postcard * Just Smile *

sometimes we just get too serious!

Wouldn`t this be fun to get in the mail?

I hope you let your self play too, it`s fun, then you can go back to 

your worries and doubts, we all do but taking a brake is important and
it feels good! ;D

Flowers Boutique

This are on my window now, they are adorning my studio while they

are gone, I hope they find new happy homes and someone that loves them

as much as I did creating them!

I have been inspired to create more of this whimsical flowers and I love

how this series is coming along and I hope you too!

I will share a bit of each...

Below is my favorite, a mother and daughter and their star... remember I said 

that each flower has it`s own star that nurtures her?  I had to bring that into

a painting and the colors here are beautiful! I will have a hard time letting 

this one go!

 L`instant... a romantic flower that reminds us to be present, be here and now

for there is nowhere else you can be!

"Mystical" She has purple petals, it is said purple is the spiritual color

 for it`s high frequency and white is known for being pure so this combo 

made me name her so!

"Pursuing a dream"

She represents all this I am doing, creating new characters, painting them,

then selling, teaching and doing all this, which is something I like but also 

something that takes a lot of effort and hard work, hopefully I have the 

strength to keep going!

"Rough exteriors strong persistence"

The wind over my house has been strange... or maybe it`s a projection of me!

but I never saw this kind of winds so often, they suddenly come,

 blowing everything away and in a moment they are gone!  

This flower represents something special to me, reminding me to

 be strong specially when times are being tough!  Her freckles are being

blown away from her face but her inner strength remains intact!

Flowers, Flowers, Flowers!

 The beginning of spring is a few days away and what better than smelling

the flowers this season abundantly gives us?

Once I`ve read that each flower has it`s own star that rules her,

I don`t understand it but I love the idea!  Each star has a daughter flower

that nurtures and accompanies in her journey to this world!

That`s my kind of story!

I like this journal page a lot! So I plan to make it a painting and I want to

make it large!  I usually make small works and that`s only because I have a

small studio and I can barely fit in there but I have to make it work some how, 

this will be worth it!

Ain't this so cute?   I love whimsical caracters, they make me smile and

it`s so much fun to make them, I will be offering a class about it this next

summer and I will bring the news soon!

I have tones of small paper flowers for my diverse projects, and some just jump 

in the many vases were I store my brushes, they love to visit them!

My sweet turtles, they are hand made by Mexican crafters and the cute little

head moves when you touch them!  I collect all kinds of small objects which 

are my favorites, books, crafts, boxes, etc!

I take a walk almost every day so I stretch my legs and do some exercise and 

sometimes I take my camera with me, this time I saw many cute flowers around!
